Hi everyone in my summer Yoga classes! It is so nice to see so many new faces and comforting to have familiar faces in my classes as well. You can always come here and find out about what might be going on with me and yoga, classes and other relatively mundane things that happen in my life.

Anyhoo, this post is about guiding you toward the tab at the top of the page called “Yogi Samantha’s Teaching Scedule”. It should be in the upper right side of this site.

I would also like to encourage you to try to do a little yoga in your spare time. Just a pose here and there, incorporating them into your life. It is not mandatory or homework, just something fun and it may add to the ease of future classes. Here is a link to the squat pose, also known at malasana, that I talked about in class. If this pose is challenging for you try putting some pillows or blankets under your seat and maybe under your heals. Careful not to stay in the pose too long. You do not want your legs to fall asleep! The more you do it, the easier it will be. Feel free to email me with your questions, comments and suggestions. Namaste Yoginis!!

lookupthetree.jpgI had to do it. I made two Yogi Samantha stores. Check the pages above the title for the store page.

One is the Yogi Samantha Amazon Store. I have listed products here for the students in my yoga class plus, books, other stuff and DVDs that help me with my personal practice. More will be added in the future. Take a look around, and feel free to ask me questions.

The other store is Yogi Samantha Cafe Press store. Hopefully at least one person (mom?) would want to let others know what a great little yoga blog I have here. If you do, then get a T-shirt, tank top or a bag. Wear them around and let everyone know you like this little blog.

Check out my stores and let me know what you think of them! Be nice I worked very hard today.

If you buy anything from either store, email me a picture and I will gladly post it and make you famous! Now how cool is that?

gingerbreadhouse.jpgI hope you are enjoying my play list as much is I did making it. You can stop it by pressing the pause button on the right side bar. Forward to the next song by using the button with the two little arrows on them. Just scroll down a little and you’ll see the box. I chose music that seems to go with the theme of my blog. Sonific is a place that WordPress provides for us to make a play list for music on our blog. They have a bunch of obscure stuff that I am pretty sure very few have heard of but they did have some of my obscure childhood favorites like the Violent Femmes. I would have included them but I felt they were not really appropriate to this blog’s theme.

Merry Christmas!

I wish that I coulsunnyflowers.jpgd take all the credit for every little thing on this blog. Actually I don’t. So many people do so many things better than I do and I am glad they are around to help me out.:)

Many of the photos were taken by me. While I am not the foremost expert photographer I do enjoy expressing myself artistically with my camera.

The header picture was taken in Jamaica after one of the many rains I experienced there. So we can all thank God and the Jamaican climate for those beautiful flowers.(The picture to the left was taken in my front yard)

Most of the pictures are from my various travels to Jerome Arizona, Hawaii, Jamaica, and also just around my home. where I got some of the other images, quotes etc.

Here is a list of places that I found images to use on this site that I didn’t take myself.

Wikimedia Commons. This site is filled with tons of pictures. They are all free to use without permission. They do ask that you give any donation that you can. So if you do decide to use them give them a little green.

When I was naming this blog I was a tad afraid to call it Yogi Samantha.

Why?1482849536_6e138cfcce_b.jpg

Well, it is fairly common knowledge that Yoga means union. So far I can think about it, the concept of union, and maybe if I thinks about it enough feels it in a small way. So does this make me a Yogi? Maybe, maybe not. After a Google search this is what I found.

One devoted to mental training,’ is in Vis.M. the usual name for the disciple cultivating mental concentration (App.). (Buddhist dictionary)
This definition certainly fits my intentions.

1) One who practices yoga. 2) One who has attained perfection through yogic practices. (Siddha Yoga)

The first one certainly applies but the second one I am not so sure about. If like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, I had the ruby shoes (perfection) all along then maybe I have this and just is in the process of realizing it. (At this early juncture of my Yoga practice is still wondering if two is ever really possible).

practitioner of yoga, a Hindu practice of meditation and exercises designed to achieve spiritual insight and tranquility (Northern)

I like this one the best as it applies to me and most people I know. While it often clarified that Yoga is not necessarily a Hindu practice, Hindus have certainly incorporated many of the principles of Yoga into their religion fairly seamlessly. (Unlike some other religons that seem to fear Yoga on some level or another.)

Maybe to some Samantha is not a Yogi and to others she is. I believe I am. I may not be a Guru but I am a Yogi!
